Internal Audit Trail

A roadmap feature for reviewing how key actions and record changes moved through the VillaTax workspace.

Overview

The internal audit trail is planned as a review surface specifically oriented toward control and traceability of sensitive changes inside the VillaTax workspace. It is related to employee activity logs and admin oversight but with a stronger audit and accountability orientation: designed to answer not just "what happened" but "can this be demonstrated to have happened in a specific way at a specific time."

Why Audit Trail Differs From Activity Logging

Activity logs capture what users did. An audit trail goes further in several important ways:

  • Immutability orientation: an audit trail is designed to be a record that cannot be edited or quietly altered after the fact, so it can serve as reliable evidence in a review or dispute
  • Sensitive action focus: rather than logging every user action, an audit trail prioritizes the changes most likely to matter under scrutiny: fiscal record modifications, compliance status updates, sensitive document changes, declaration marks
  • Audit-defense value: if an organization faces a tax authority review, a compliance investigation, or an internal governance question, a reliable audit trail provides the kind of evidence that informal activity records cannot

For multi-owner operations or professionally managed portfolios where multiple parties may ask later what happened to a record, an audit trail is materially more useful than a general activity log.

Intended Scope

When this feature is released, it is expected to cover:

  • Timestamped change records for sensitive fiscal and compliance data, who changed what, from what value to what value, and when
  • Non-repudiable attribution: each record change is tied to the authenticated user who made it
  • Review interface: an administrator view for examining the audit trail for a specific record, organization, or time period
  • Export capability: the ability to produce the audit trail in a format suitable for review by advisors, auditors, or oversight parties

Relationship to Other Traceability Features

The internal audit trail is the most rigorous of three related planned features. Employee activity logs provide general operational traceability. Admin oversight provides management visibility. The internal audit trail provides audit-grade evidence for sensitive changes. Together they form a complete traceability layer for multi-user workspace governance.

Current Status

This feature is not yet live and should be treated as roadmap-only. When released, it will be available to workspace administrators through the relevant settings or review area of the dashboard.
